Obituary:
Albert Edwin Larson, Jr. of Plantsville, Ct died after a long illness on his 87th birthday, November 9, 2009. He was the beloved husband of 61 years of Nellie (Sylvester) Larson who preceded him in death on October 11, 2009. Albert was the son of the late Albert and Jennie (Hedlund) Larson. He was born in New Britain, Ct and graduated from New Britain High School in 1941. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and spent most of WWII as a machinist mate stationed in Recife, Brazil. After returning to New Britain, he entered business with his father and became the long time owner and President of The Day Screw Machine Co. Following retirement, Albert and Nellie lived in Kensington before moving to Plantsville. Albert was a member of St Andrew’s Church in New Britain. Albert was an award winning philatelist with a particular interest in the US space program. He served as President of the Hardware City Stamp Club and the Connecticut Philatelic Society. In 1979 he was recognized as Connecticut Philatelist of the Year by the Manchester Stamp Club. After his retirement, Albert volunteered at New Britain High School in the computer and graphic arts department and worked with several NBHS sports teams. In 1996 the Connecticut Association of Schools honored him as a Distinguished Friend of Education. In 1998 NBHS recognized his service to the baseball program with the Joseph P. Rustico Alumni Booster Award. Albert was also predeceased by two infant daughters, Elizabeth and Carol Larson. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Dr Paul and Margaret (Peg) Larson of Oshkosh, WI; his grandsons Robert and Andrew Larson also of Oshkosh; his sister Ruth (Larson) Prodan of Rapid City, SD; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Saturday November 14 from the Venskunas Funeral Home 670 Stanley St New Britain from 10:45 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at St Andrews Church at noon. A burial with full military honors will follow in St Mary Cemetery. Calling hours will take place on Friday November 13 from 4-7:00pm.
