CONRAD (RON) SCHLEICHER

April 20, 1944 - May 19, 2013

Conrad ( Ron) Schleicher, cast his last fishing line on May 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the son of the late Andrew and Doris Schleicher. Born April 20, 1944 in New Britain, Ct. He attended local schools and graduated from New Britain High School in 1962. He served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1970. He was a 19 year employee of the City of New Britain, Parks and Recreation Department and retired as a Park Foreman at Chesley Park in New Britain. He married the " Love of his Life", Rena Redfield on September 6, 1985 and lived with her in New Britain until his death. They loved to travel and they particularly enjoyed their cruises, with many family members and friends....( the more the merrier). Ron excelled in fishing ( fresh water-catch and release only), once catching a record brown trout, and passed on his love of fishing to his grandson, Tyler Redfield, who frequently fished along side him in his Bass Tracker Boat. Ron took fashion cues from absolutely no one. His signature everyday look was a plain pocketed T-shirt usually designed by the house of Fruit of the Loom, and his Wrangler Jeans ( no other brand would do), his brown loafers and white socks. He despised phonies, so all of his close friends were men ( and women) of character and integrity. "Character" being the operative word, and Ron was one of those in spades. He loved his Gentleman Jack Tennessee Whiskey and an occasional Corona. Besides his wife, Rena, Ron leaves behind two sons, Scott Schleicher ( his buddy and caretaker), Cory Schleicher and a step-son Shane Redfield. Also grandchildren Tyler Redfield, Zachary Schleicher, and Lyzandra Cordova, Great-Grandaughter, Janisa Mendoza, and Goddaughter, Hailey Aguero. Also his brothers, Walter Schleicher, Charles Schleicher, sisters Alice Gomes, Ann Gherkin and a cousin, Robert Silva, whom he referred to for all intents and purposes as his brother. Two aunts, Vivian Ehritz and Ethel ( Auntie Jo) Zanetti. His 2nd Family, Joseph and Yvette Falconeri, Lynn and Efrain, Chris and Steve, Robbie, Smitty, and David and Vinny. In-laws, Michael, Dolores and Ray, and many wonderful and very loved nieces and nephews ( most who regarded him as the " cool" uncle). In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Donations can be made on-line at woundedwarriorproject.org in Ron's memory.
